The Balancing Act - Scott Campbell

Jan 16, 2020

Markham native, Scott Campbell, may be one of the best multi-taskers we know. From dedicating his time and energy to the Thunderbirds team, to being a loving husband and father to his two young daughters, Scott has quite the load on his plate. The balancing act that is Scott’s daily life is nothing short of impressive. Both he and his family are adjusting to the new schedule, city and are really embracing the spirit of the Halifax fan base.

“The biggest thing is the atmosphere,” said Campbell. “Halifax seems ready to put their arms around us. The fans are really unbelievable.”

On the turf, we know Scott as a powerhouse of experience and strategy. This year marks his 16th professional season playing in the National Lacrosse League. He has previously played for Minnesota, Toronto, Boston, Rochester and Saskatchewan. Team Owner and General Manager Curt Styres is glad to have Scott back with the Thunderbirds franchise.

“Scott is a proven competitor in this league and knows what it takes to build a great team,” said Styres. “He is one of the most respected players in the game and a class act. He possesses all the qualities that you could want in a leader and teammate.”

It all started in the first intra-squad game for Campbell.

“The amount of people that showed up for the first game blew us away,” said Campbell. “The support has continued to grow game after game and the crowd has been getting louder and louder. We as players certainly feed off the energy that the fans have been creating. The community just instantly made us feel welcomed and at home.”

When asked about his free agency experience and what enticed him to sign in Halifax, it all came down to his trust and long-term relationship with owner Curt Styres.

“The excitement of building something new in the amazing city of Halifax, the reciprocated excitement of the Halifax community and the depth of the players on this team made this an easy decision,” said Campbell. “This is going to be a good team for a long time with the core group of young talented players and I wanted to be part of that rise.”

Grateful for such an understanding and supportive family, Scott is excited to see where this season will go for the Birds.
