May 8, 2024
(HALIFAX, NS) May 8, 2024 – The National Lacrosse League today announced that Halifax Thunderbirds President & CEO John Catalano has been named a finalist for the league’s Executive of the Year Award for his instrumental role in the franchise's growth and success in Halifax.
“John’s leadership exemplifies excellence, passion, and dedication to this organization,” Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager Curt Styres said. “As a finalist for the NLL’s Executive of the Year award, he demonstrates an unwavering commitment to bringing success to the Halifax Thunderbirds. His vision and approach have propelled this organization to new heights, including our first sell-out this past season, making him deserving of this recognition.”
Catalano, a four-time finalist for the NLL’s Executive of the Year Award, most recently won the league’s highest honour following the shortened 2019-2020 season for his efforts in bringing the Thunderbirds to Halifax.
Under John’s guidance, the Thunderbirds saw a 32-percent increase in ticket revenue this season. The franchise has also broken the previous record for single-game ticket revenue on three separate occasions this year.
Along with the increase in ticket sales, he has been instrumental in fostering three new season-ticket representatives to the top three spots across the league in revenue for first-year sales representatives.
Catalano has also been a driving force in continuing the growth of lacrosse within the city. His efforts have led to a significant uptick in lacrosse participation by actively engaging schools across Nova Scotia and through year-round Junior Thunderbirds programming. By organizing clinics, providing coaching support, and advocating for increased resources, Catalano has enabled more youth to access the sport, fostering skill development and a sense of community. His commitment to inclusivity and accessibility has elevated the lacrosse profile in Halifax.
The leadership and expertise of Catalano have been the driving factor in the success and growth of the sport in Halifax.
