Thunderbirds to host Riptide for NLL Game of the Week on TSN

HALIFAX, NS (April 7, 2023) – After setting a record for the franchise's largest attendance since moving to Halifax, the Halifax Thunderbirds have been given the NLL Game of the Week on TSN for their final regular-season home game against the New York Riptide on Apr 22. 

“We are excited once again to host the NLL Game of the Week on TSN and showcase our great city and incredible fans,” said Thunderbirds President and CEO John Catalano. “We look forward to showcasing the amazing atmosphere our fans have created at the Nest live to a nationwide audience on TSN.”

The team has continued to get strong support from the Thunderbirds faithful throughout the season, averaging 8,419 fans per game this season. The franchise broke its attendance record for Halifax back on March 18 against Toronto, welcoming 9,957 fans to The Nest.

This will be the third and final regular-season matchup between the Thunderbirds and Riptide. Halifax has taken both previous games, with the Birds defending home turf and taking a 13-12 final in the last head-to-head.

“The work Curt Styres and the Thunderbirds’ organization have done in growing both the NLL and box lacrosse in Atlantic Canada is best in class and we are pleased that they will be able to again showcase their players and fans to a national audience on the NLL Game of the Week on TSN," NLL Commissioner Brett Frood said. "The game is in the midst of our exciting 'March to May' playoff push and viewers will get a first-hand view of the competitive intensity of our league and the electrifying energy of our enthusiasts in Halifax.” 

The trio of John Abbott, Pat Gregoire, and Ashley Docking will be on the broadcast.

Heading into the final month of the NLL regular season, the Thunderbirds sit at 7-8 and in the fourth seed in the East Division. 

Along with the game being the NLL Game of the Week on TSN, it will also be Fan Appreciation Night at The Nest, with a 7:00 p.m. AT start time.
