Jul 19, 2021

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (July 19, 2021) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced they have re-signed defenceman Luc Magnan to a two-year contract.

"Luc brings it every night for us, inside and out,” said Thunderbirds assistant coach, Billy Dee Smith. “He's a great leader, great in the lockerroom and someone who the younger guys can model their game after, on and off the floor."

Magnan, 29, wrapped up his fifth season in the NLL and fourth with the Thunderbirds franchise. The right-hander played in all 12 regular season game in the 2019-20 NLL season, finishing with three assists, 37 loose balls, and five caused turnovers.

Out of Pine Falls, Manitoba, Magnan was originally selected by the Toronto Rock in the second round (No. 17 overall) of the 2015 NLL Entry Draft. Following the conclusion of the 2016 NLL season, he was signed by the Rochester Knighthawks and has remained with the franchise since, helping the team get to the NLL Finals in 2018.

In 70 regular season games played, Magnan has 31 points (4G, 27A), 214 loose balls, and 39 caused turnovers. His five postseason appearances all came in 2018, and in those five games, the Robert Morris University alum notched seven assists, 25 loose balls, and a caused turnover.

"I am excited and I am honoured to be back with this special group,” Magnan said. “Our window to win is now. We have a great group of leaders and veterans and a strong up-and-coming young talented core. I can’t wait to get back together with the boys."
