Thunderbirds Sign Forward Johnny Pearson to One-Year Contract

Nov 8, 2022

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (November 8, 2022) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced they have signed forward Johnny Pearson to a one-year deal.

Pearson, 27, is a big-bodied lefty forward out of Langley, British Columbia. Drafted in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft in the second round (No. 19 overall) by the Saskatchewan Rush, the Ohio State University alum signed as a street free agent with the expansion San Diego Seals ahead of the 2018-19 season. Over the next two seasons, he played in 13 games and recorded six points (5G, 1A), 33 loose balls, and two caused turnovers.

“Looking forward to getting Johnny into camp and the up coming scrimmages. He is big and athletic and can play both sides of the floor,” Thunderbirds Assistant General Manager Scott Campbell said of the signing. “It’s nice to have a guy that can play hard Defense, transition the ball up the floor and stay and play if needed or come out the front door and clear space, chip in with some points, and cut off transition.”

Pearson was traded twice since 2020, first from the Seals to the then New England Black Wolves and then from the Albany FireWolves to Panther City LC. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound lefty saw action in one game for the expansion club.

With the Buckeyes, Pearson played as a midfielder for four seasons. In 44 games played, he recorded 58 points (48G, 10A), 20 ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers.
