Thunderbirds Sign Forward Connor Watson to One-Year Deal

Oct 5, 2022

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (October 05, 2022) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced they have signed forward Connor Watson to a one-year deal.

“Connor came into camp last year and impressed everyone,” Thunderbirds head coach Mike Accursi said. “He has tremendous speed and athleticism. He worked his way into the lineup a few times and had tremendous success. After having another great season of summer ball, I expect we will see a more confident Watson as he fights for a roster spot.”

Watson, 23, wrapped up his rookie season with the Thunderbirds in 2021-22, appearing in three games and posting eight points (2G, 6A) and 10 loose balls. His best performance was in his debut on Jan. 15, 2022 against the Toronto Rock. In that game, the right-hander recorded five points (2G, 3A) and five loose balls, helping the Thunderbirds earn their third consecutive win to start the season.

An undrafted street free agent, Watson signed with the Thunderbirds ahead of the 2021-22 NLL season. He played for the Jr. A Langley Thunder for two seasons. In 38 games played, the British Columbia native tallied 118 points (41G, 77A).

Watson spent summer 2022 playing in the Western Lacrosse Association for the Burnaby Lakers. In 16 games played at the Sr. A level, Watson recorded 40 points (16G, 24A).

A graduate of University of Mount Olive, Watson played in 46 games during his collegiate career. He posted 133 points (83G, 50A), collected 64 ground balls, and caused 11 turnovers during that time.
