HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (August 25, 2021) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced they have signed defenseman Brett Draper to a one-year contract.

The 22 year old defenseman from Dartmouth spent his summer with Dartmouth Bandits Jr. A in the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League. Across three seasons (2017, 2019, and 2021), the right-hander posted 123 points (63G, 60A) in 25 regular season games and 20 points (12G, 8A) in four postseason contests. He has won two championships with the Bandits, once in 2016 and 2017.

Draper played 22 regular season games for the Orangeville Northmen across 2018 and 2019, netting 10 goals and eight assists. He played 15 postseason games for the Ontario Jr. A Lacrosse League team and posted five goals and nine assists.

“It’s a dream come true to have the chance to play for a team in the NLL, let alone that team being in your hometown,” Draper said. “It’s really special, and I am just excited to get on the floor and compete with the best of the best. Being a young kid in the lacrosse world, you always dream and think about playing in the NLL; now that I have the chance to do so, it’s truly amazing, and I am blessed for this opportunity.”

The Thunderbirds drafted Draper in the 6th Round (No. 91 overall) of the 2020 NLL Entry Draft.
