Jul 15, 2023

HALIFAX, NS (July 16, 2023) – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has agreed to a three-year contract extension with transition player Ryan Terefenko.

“Terry’s (Terefenko) lacrosse IQ is top of the league,” said Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager, Curt Styres. “He is a great defender, he’s all over loose balls, can score on transition, and to top it off he is an amazing team player.”

Terefenko, 25, just finished his second season in the National Lacrosse League. The Ohio State graduate was selected by the Thunderbirds in the second round (27th overall) of the 2020 NLL Draft.

The four-time NCAA All-American hailing from the Philadelphia region, had his best season to date in 2023, finding his stride as a transition threat with seven goals and 21 points to go along with 186 loose balls and 14 caused turnovers with just six penalty minutes while appearing in all 18 contests.

In 32 career games to date, Terefenko has nine goals, 28 points, 289 loose balls, and 24 CTOs.

Terefenko is coming off winning a gold medal at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championships with the United States – it was his first time representing his country at the tournament.

“We won the lottery selecting Terry in the Draft. Having him return for three more years is another great win for us.”
