(HALIFAX, NS) July 20, 2022 – The Halifax Thunderbirds and defender Tyson Bell have agreed to a one-year contract extension.

Bell, 28, completed his first season as a member of the Thunderbirds after being acquired by the franchise from the Calgary Roughnecks back in 2020. The lefty defenseman was flipped for a pair of draft picks (14th, 20th overall) at the start of the second round of the 2021 Entry Draft.

“Tyson’s athleticism is off the charts,” said Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager, Curt Styres. “He plays tough D, and can get under the skin of the other team. His speed and touch in transition makes him a very special player and happy to have him signed for the 2023 season.”

In 17 games played, the St. Catharines, Ont., native finished with four goals and 14 points while adding 115 loose balls and 11 caused turnovers in 17 contests.

A six-year National Lacrosse League veteran, Bell has played in 89 career games, compiling 21 goals and 41 assists for 62 points along with 526 LBs and 73 CTOs.

“2022 was Tyson’s first year with the Thunderbirds we look forward to seeing what next season will bring  coming in knowing what to expect having some familiarity.”
