(September 23, 2020) Halifax, NS - The Thunderbirds announced today that forward Brett Draper has been signed to a one-year agreement.

“To get drafted to the Thunderbirds, it was a dream come true,” said Draper.  “As a young lacrosse player everyone dreams of getting the chance to play in the NLL, and now that I have the opportunity to do so, in my hometown, it means the world to me and I am thrilled for this opportunity!”

In 2019 with the Dartmouth Bandits, he tallied 23 goals and added 19 assists in eight games. He went on to finish the season with the Orangeville Northmen. In the regular season with the Northmen he played in five games, scoring a goal and an assist. During the playoffs in 2019 he played in seven games scoring three goals and three assists.

“Draper is an athlete who has worked really hard to play at the highest level,” said Head Coach Mike Accursi. “He came to Ontario to challenge himself and played amazing. Now he can continue that rise by challenging for a spot on his hometown Thunderbirds this year.”

In 2018 with Orangeville, Draper played in 17 regular season games, scoring 9 goals and 14 assists. In the playoffs he saw action in 8 games scoring two goals and adding six assists.  He also won two Championships with the Dartmouth Bandits in 2016 and 2017.

When asked about drafting Draper, Accursi noted he did his homework on the 5’11”, 185 lb Dartmouth native. “I asked around about who the best local kid was around here. I talked to coaches he played in Orangeville and they spoke very highly of him." said Accursi. "They talked about his athleticism, his IQ and his work ethic. Those are the guys that check all the boxes for me.”

“I am most excited to just be around the team and have the opportunity to learn and soak up everything I can from these elite players and coaches and be able to use that knowledge to help take my game to the next level,” added Draper.
