Thunderbirds Announce: Buy Local First Campaign

Dec 11, 2020

The Halifax Thunderbirds announced today their Buy Local First campaign. Utilizing their online presence the Thunderbirds want to help support local brands by increasing their marketing power and visibility.

Money spent at locally owned businesses stays within the local economy and helps continue to strengthen the economic base of the community. As of June 2020, there were 32,329 small businesses within Nova Scotia. Additionally, businesses with fewer than 50 employees equate to 45.4% of private-sector employment [Recognizing Innovation, 2020]

With a primary focus on “keeping your dollar where your heart lives” this initiative strives to support local businesses through online exposure. The Thunderbirds have created an online form where small businesses can sign up to have their company information, product offerings, and social media platforms listed on HalifaxThunderbirds.com. The Thunderbirds will also be promoting local businesses who have signed up through the form on their social media platforms and to their email database.

“Our goal is to help Haligonians celebrate where they live and aid in building a community that thrives by thinking local first!” said Vice President of Marketing and Partnerships, Avery Light. “Instead of focusing on one weekend out of the year, we wanted to help provide continual support by shining light on various small businesses throughout Halifax and surrounding areas.”

Local businesses can visit HalifaxThunderbirds.com/LocalFirstSignUp to submit their information to be featured.
